April 15-24, 2009
Public Performances on
Sat. April 18 & 25 at 8pm
THE THEATRE CENTRE, 1087 QUEEN STREET WEST, TORONTO
At the Upper Canada Repertory Company, we believe that Shakespeare can be both exciting and educational. Our 2008 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was seen by over 1500 GTA students and played to sold-out houses and standing ovations. Please don’t miss this exciting opportunity to experience our 2009 production, combining three curriculum-based subjects: English(Romeo & Juliet), Drama (Shakespeare, musical theatre) and History (World War Two) by setting Shakespeare’s classic in 1938 Germany.
A Jewish Romeo fights for the love of Juliet, the daughter of a German Nazi officer. Using Shakespeare’s text and contemporary music, themes of racism and social justice are brought to life in a manner that is emotionally engaging and relevant to today’s youth. A study guide will be sent out to all attending schools in advance of the show and the cast is available for a post-show question & answer period, if requested (12:30 show only).
SHOW LENGTH: 90 minutes.
STUDENT TICKET PRICE: $10
