About the Junior Rep

Since 2001, the Upper Canada Repertory Company’s mandate has been to provide the best in actor training and professional production for people of all ages. This is the seventh year of our Junior Repertory Company training program, providing advanced actor training and performance experience for young people aged 12 – 18.

The Junior Repertory Company is a training ground for young actors who show potential as both performers and co-workers in the professional theatrical world.

Members of the company participate in actor training at a level comparable with that of a post-secondary university or conservatory program. The emphasis of our class work has two parts: teamwork and excellence. This is reflected in every aspect of our curriculum from improv work to rehearsal of our shows.

Membership is by audition and invitation only.

The program consists of twenty-six classes of training and rehearsal followed by a spring performance. Our training period runs from September to April on Sundays. Weekly five-hour class sessions teach acting, improvisation, theatre history, dance and singing, followed by rehearsal and performance of a play. This year’s production will be an exciting new musical version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Graduates of our program have gone on to study theatre at George Brown, Concordia, Dalhousie and the University of Toronto. Many work as actors in the professional world. The majority of our current students also attend the Etobicoke School of the Arts.
