Since 2001, the Upper Canada Repertory Company’s twists
on Shakespearean classics
have been enjoyed by thousands of GTA students. Many schools have returned
year after year, enjoying exciting new takes on Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth
and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Please don’t miss this exciting opportunity to experience our 2010 production,
featuring content relevant to three subject areas: English(Twelfth Night),
Drama (Shakespeare, Musical Theatre) and History (The Great Depression.)
Our production sets Shakespeare’s classic in the aftermath of the 1929 stock
market crash. Unemployed and homeless, Viola and her twin brother Sebastian
travel by boxcar, seeking work in the big city. There they meet up with
cabaret singer Olivia, actor Orsino, and Sir Toby, a bootlegger who runs
a Speakeasy. Using Shakespeare’s text and fast-paced, contemporary musical
numbers, Twelfth Night is brought to life in a manner that is highly entertaining,
emotionally engaging and relevant to today’s youth.
$1 from each ticket will be donated to Haitian relief.
